Aerodrome62: Pete, what are you reading these days? Fiction or non-fiction? What makes you want to pick up a book when you're in the shop? What makes you want to put it back down without reading?

PT: I read too many books to give a simple reply. At the moment I am caught up in the vogue for crime fiction from the Nordic countries � I started with Henning Mankell, recommended by my daughter Emma...

Garethnh: Roger has been quoted as saying that John's volume was a problem in the later years due to his deafness. Did this have any impact on yourself during rehearsal/on stage at all? It always makes me laugh that Roger always stood in front of John's amps then said he was too loud!

PT: I always felt John was more important in the Who as a musician than Roger. (Ed: steady now). Maybe he was more important than Keith or me. He was certainly a better musician....

Jenlennon: How do you feel about people finding metaphors or meanings that may not be present in your compositions? How do you deal with people completely misinterpreting your meaning in a piece?

PT: What you describe is actually how it works. The intention of the song is to provide a foil, a musical tool, so it is functional in itself. It doesn�t matter exactly what it does, as long as it does something....

Marksandwell: You wrote Little Billy for the US Cancer Trust. They never used it. Do you, Pete Townshend, own the rights on this song or does it belong to the US Cancer Trust?

PT: I think it belongs to the American Cancer Society. I will attempt to find out. It would fun to record it again with younger performers and see if we could get a hit....
